Assume you're the account executive for a leading ad agency and your key account, a manufacturer of snack foods, needs a name for a new baked, low-fat potato chip. You establish from your client that the new chip name should support the positioning of "a new, great tasting chip that's good for you, fun to eat and ..."

You start NamePro and decide to search the Namebase for possible name candidates. You click on the Search icon in the Icon Bar to pop-up the String Search Window, and then load the following set of Strings from the many different sets stored in the String Search database:

Note that on one of the lines is the String "sun<fun" which tells NamePro to perform a Search And Replace operation. That is, NamePro will search for all names that contain the string "sun," replace "sun" with "fun," and display the resulting names. As a result, NamePro will generate names like FunBurst, Fun Fresh, Funlights and Funshine.

Also note that most of the Strings loaded are shorter than those you would have perhaps entered in yourself. For example, "nutr" is stored in the String Search database instead of a String like "nutri" or "nutritious". This helps NamePro find the widest variety of potentially interesting names, including those that contain "nutra," "nutri" and "nutro."

You now start the search by clicking on the OK button at the bottom of the String Search Window or by pressing the Enter key. As NamePro searches its Namebase, it will display all the names it finds that contain any of the Search Strings you entered. A Flood Bar denotes the search's progress, and when the search is completed you can scroll through the resulting matching names displayed in the Review Window:

You can click the right mouse button on those names you find interesting (e.g. New Wave). NamePro will display the name's Name Associations Window:

Referring to the Connotations column on the right-hand side, you note that there are 5407 names with the Fun / Exciting Connotation. You decide to view these names, so you click on the Fun / Exciting 5407 line and then click on the Display Names in Above Selections button.

NamePro displays the Fun / Exciting names in the Review Window. You scroll through the list, double clicking or dragging and dropping your favorite names to the Keepers Window:

As you scroll through these names, you may want to add or tweak the names you see displayed. You can enter new name ideas directly into the Keepers Window by clicking on the Text Box at the top of the Window, keying in the name and pressing the Enter key to move it into the List Box. When you're through, you'll have a short list of names in the Keeper's Window that you can:

• Save to disk by clicking on the Save button.
• Explode into their component parts by pressing the Xploder button.
• Check for hidden profane meanings by clicking the Vulgar button.
• Print by clicking on the Print button.
